Have I mentioned how much I love Bolster Pillows lately?***This post contains Affiliate links for which I may receive a small commission for purchases at no extra charge to you*** I don't know why, but I used to not like bolster pillows at all. They just seemed awkward and not big enough. When I started designing my home decor crochet pattern collections a few years ago, I wanted more than just a basic square or rectangle pillow to coordinate with my crocheted afghans so I purchased a few bolster pillow forms on Amazon. I soon realized I was wrong about bolster pillows! I absolutely love them now and have to keep a tight watch on my own pillow because my girls like to use them too. lol I like to take them in the car for rides and they're a good shape for the girls to use if they're tired during a long ride. I like that they give more support for my neck when reading in bed and I LOVE the look of them when placed on a couch or bed with the coordinating pillows and throw! A wonderful way to add color and texture to any room in your home is by adding pillows! Even better.... buy (or make) 1 pillow form in a few different sizes and then crochet a collection of pillow covers to switch out your decor through the year. This makes it so easy to change things up without a lot of fuss. (I can't complain about it being easier to wash just the covers either!) Here's a fun collection of Bolster Pillow Cover Crochet Patterns to check out!December's new crochet pattern releasesThe new Pebbled Archway Reversible home decor crochet pattern collection has quickly become another one of my favorites. I love the feeling you get when you walk in a room and see a comforting afghan placed across a couch. It's even more wonderful with coordinating pillows! What could make it even better? How about all of the pieces being reversible? Each week through the month of December, I'm releasing 1 crochet pattern from this set. The Pebbled Archway Reversible Bolster Pillow crochet pattern was released last week and can be found HERE on my website. This week, is the Pebbled Archway Reversible Throw crochet pattern. This is such a great way to add a splash of color to any room! I hope you'll enjoy laying with color and working up this collection as much as I did. Blanket Supplies and notes:Thankful for TraditionsI find it fascinating to hear the various traditions of families and friends and even others around the world. What is cool about it is that while many may be the same, many put their own little spins on a tradition to make it unique to their families. When I was a little girl, I lived next door to my grandparents. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, she had her banquet table covered with a nice table runner and this beautiful candy dish (or a few of them) filled with Bridge Mix and Chocolate covered orange sticks. I love chocolate covered nuts but HATED the chocolate covered raisins and something about orange and chocolate mixed gives me headaches. I would always try to remember which color of chocolate or which shape may be the nuts. Sadly, I bit into those terrible raisins many more times than I would have liked. Back then, my mom would sew each of us 6 kids a new pair of PJ's to be opened on Christmas eve. It was always fun to have a new pajama to wear to bed. My favorite were made out of Trico or some similar slippery fabric and they were comfy! My siblings and I would draw names and we'd be able to pick out one present for that person. Since all of us are married now, we play the white elephant game for our family Christmas party. Our kids have fun drawing names with their cousins and choosing 1 gift for them. I love that we're able to carry on that tradition for our kids to enjoy. It's something they look forward to and I hope we can keep it going a while longer. The biggest tradition (and I think the best) is the homemade old fashioned candy. Every year, my aunt would make old fashioned fudge, penuche and boston creme and give a package of it to my dad. If we were lucky, he'd share with us. It didn't last long! My uncle would spend a bunch of time in the freezing cold of his garage dipping homemade cherry chocolates. Oh boy! I had the privilege of staying with them my senior year of high school and was able to help him a little (before I got to cold) and watch his process. Sadly, the family doesn't know where his recipe went for those. For a few years, I asked my aunt for her candy recipes and she would just brush it off and we would forget. One year, she finally told me she would have me there when she was making the candy so I could learn the tricks. To my disappointment, she ended up showing her daughter in law. Great for her, but dang it! It took some time and I think by the time I did get it out of her, she wasn't doing well health wise. I reminded her that if she didn't pass them on to one of us, the tradition would be lost. She told me the recipes and I wrote the small set of instructions out as best I could... "A little of this...", A dash of that..." You know how those old recipes go! But the trick wasn't so much in the quantity but more in the process. It took me some time to really get it down but I love that I'm able to carry on that family tradition! She has since passed away and I try to take some candy to her husband so he can still have a bit of her legand during the holidays. It's truly not a holiday without her old fashioned candy! In the spirit of holiday candy making, I chose to offer all of my Kitchen Towel Top crochet patterns for just $1 each for day 8 of the 10 Days of Thanksgiving Crochet Event. I hope you'll enjoy a little holiday cooking too!

Thankful for Crochet TimeToday is all about crochet time! Have you ever had a time in your life when you were unable to crochet for some reason? It's so easy to pick up a crochet hook and some yarn and work to our little hearts content whenever we want. I typically crochet while watching a movie or waiting for kids at their events. Many nights, I'll crochet after everyone has gone to bed and I'm able to listen to audio books. I admit that I've taken this freedom for granted many times. If ever I'm unable to crochet, I struggle. Crochet time is my time to be creative, to reflect on events of the week and many times, it's my time to put my talent into a service project. I FINALLY took some time to crochet something for myself. WHAT??? For the past year, I've been so busy making things for family and friends and figured it was about time that I do something that I can keep AND use. Today, I'm releasing my new Queen of Hearts Basket crochet pattern. I've enjoyed using it for yarn and I hope you will too! One of the things that I love about living in Northern Utah is the fact that we have 4 very distinct seasons. I know we've talked about it before and many of you are in warmer climates where it stays pretty consistent. I honestly don't have a favorite season. I love each of them for different reasons and getting to live here helps me appreciate them even more. Spring time means beautiful flowers popping up through the snow and the thought of planting fresh peas in my garden as early as March. Everything is just waking up and fresh and it's just pretty. Summer means that we get to enjoy sitting on the porch swing and the amazing colors of flowers, planting a garden and watching it grow, camping in the mountains and swimming in outdoor pools. Cookouts with family are a given and the good ole hometown events and parades are in full swing. Fall is amazing when the leaves start to change color, the wheat fields are golden, corn on the cob is on a must have and county fairs are in full swing. The wildlife starts coming down to the hill sides more and we can watch them in their full beauty. How could you not love it? Winter brings a new beauty to behold when the first snow of the season falls and all the fields are covered in white. What a sight to see! It brings with it the magic of the season and the thoughts of sitting by a nice warm fire surrounded by those you love. I'm not of fan of the cold but I love seeing my girls sledding down our little hill or building a snowman. Thankful for Laughter
Who doesn't love to laugh? Some of us chuckle with a big jiggle of our belly. Some of us snort when we laugh more often than we want others to remember. No matter how we laugh, it's contagious. It's a rare occasion when someone is a group starts laughing and others don't automatically follow.
For day 5, I chose to share a brand new crochet pattern with you. I created a blog post to show how this design came to life. You can read about that HERE
The Peppermint Kiss Beanbag has been a fun project for my girls from the moment it was finished. It's such a great feeling to know that your kids love and appreciate your work! They use this bean bag Every Single Day. There have been many moments of laughter while kicking back in this fun little new chair. I hope that you'll make some for the little ones in your family to enjoy for a long time to come. Be sure to give each of these patterns a "Heart" on Ravelry and take advantage of the discount today! Thankful for Holidays
Valentines is another holiday that I struggled with for a long time. When you're single and see so many people caring about their significant other, it seems to make lonely even lonelier. Sure, I was happy for those who were in love and appreciated. It was just hard. As I've grown older though, I like to do something for my girls to make them feel loved. I love flowers and they're nice to receive now and then but the prices during this holiday are silly. Send me a single flower sometime during the year just because and it would mean more to me. I do however love babies! I love celebrating them and seeing beautiful photos of them which is why I created the "With All My Heart Photo Prop".

Thankful for Color
When it comes to color in my crochet designs, I typically design with someone specific in mind and try to use colors that I know they'll enjoy.
THAT is what I love about crochet! I can wip up a pattern in my favorite color and YOU can wip up the same pattern in your favorite color and it just works perfectly. Thank heavens we don't all have to use only blue!!!

Thankful for Birthdays
To give you an idea of where I grew up, this photo is a beautiful shot of my hometown. Winters were brutal back then and there were many, many days where we were snowed in. Snow drifts where HUGE which made for fun sledding!
My 2nd daughter was the 1st baby for my husband and it was so sweet to watch him with her when she was first born. He would talk to her while I was pregnant and she would turn her head to listen to him. My 3rd, well, she did NOT like her dad! He would try to talk to her while I was pregnant too and she would immediately flip to kick him away. The first year, she was such a mama's girl and it was a big struggle for me to do the simple every day tasks. And my 4th is definitely the most energetic. She was constantly twisting and turning and kicking while I was pregnant and we teased that she would be part of a circus. She's still our little ball of energy and we love every minute of it. Each one filled our hearts with more love than we could imagine and each of them mean the world to us.
My oldest daughter is due this month and you may be reading this as I'm holding my new grandson. I am going to be a grandma!!!! I'm so excited to record the events of the day that my new little first grandchild enters this world. I want him to know how loved and special he is.
We ALL have something in common! We ALL have birthdays. We ALL are unique. We ALL are important. We ALL have a story. We ALL can celebrate that we are here. Though our lives may be very different, we still have some things in common. I for one am glad that you are here! I hope that you will take a moment to think to yourself on your birthday - "I am unique", "I am important", "I am the best me there is" because you absolutely are!!!

I'm Kate and crochet is my passion. I've been crocheting for 30+ years and as you can see from the selection of designs on my site, blankets are my obsession. I absolutely love creating something that will wrap my love around friends and family when they're in need of comfort.
Having 4 beautiful girls of my own has also inspired many infant, toddler and child size dresses. They are my biggest cheerleaders and have enjoyed wearing the things I've made them.
