For years, I wanted to design a Peppermint Swirl Christmas Tree Skirt.  I've seen others do smaller ideas with the red and white swirls but not to the extent that I wanted to. It had to be AWESOME  and it had to be PERFECT!
At the beginning of 2017, I finally decided to give it a try and had an "Ah-Ha" moment which helped me get jumping on the plan.  I thought I was SO smart!  This was going to be the best thing I've ever designed.  I grabbed some red and white yarn that I had on hand, pulled my crochet hook out and off I went.
The start of the Peppermint Kiss Beanbag crochet pattern
This was it!  It was going to happen!  I worked and worked and worked.  I made section after section knowing how cool this was going to turn out.

I don't remember exactly what yarn I grabbed first. I just remember that one was red, one was white and they were the same brand.  Silly me, I should know better but I did NOT work a swatch of each color prior to working the sections.  I learned my lesson!  Not all colors in the same brand are created equally!  So, in case you ever need to work something that requires matching gauge and you're using more than 1 color, learn from my mistake and do a swatch with each color to make sure they work to the same size first.

So, now what?
Well, the written pattern instructions were where I wanted them so it was just a matter of finding a red and white yarn in the same brand to work to the same size.  I ended up using Lion Brand's Pound of Love yarn and started over.

Panel after panel, I crocheted. I would place them on the ground to make sure they were getting the shape that I thought was going to work.

MAYBE?  MAYBE NOT.

Frustrated and feeling defeated, I walked away from these crocheted panels.  When I finally realized that the arch was not enough, I had to start over completely.  I knew how I wanted to do it but had to find a better and smarter way.  My husband asked what I needed and jumped in to help me by cutting out some cardboard in the size I needed and we went to drawing it out for a visual reference.
LOOK AT THAT DIFFERENCE!

Now what?

I continued working on the new section of panels using the cutout cardboard as my reference.  The new sections happily turned into the Peppermint Swirl Christmas Tree Skirt.

You KNOW I was NOT going to frog all the previous panels.  I put SO much work into them that they WERE going to turn into SOMETHING!

After completing the Pepermint Swirl Christmas Tree Skirt crochet pattern, I pulled out the old panels once more to play around with them and see if I could turn them into something else.  Something fun.  Something unique.

As most of you know, I have 3 young girls and they love to kick back and read books or watch movies when their chores are done. Wouldn't it be fun to turn it into something they could use and enjoy?

The wheels started turning and a new idea came to life!

What about a bean bag?  DONE!
