Give the gift of love through time and talent this year!
Valentines Day is quickly approaching and and I have a fun idea for you.
Wouldn't it be great to give your loved ones a super sweet gift this year that will last? What if we crocheted something that they could keep longer than candy and flowers (hey, and they won't complain about to many sweets = weight gain and dentist trips). You know you have yarn in your stash to use up! You know you're going to be picking up that hook soon if it's not already in your hand. So why not let Valentines day mean more than just 1 day of "I Love You's"? Why not let that thought carry one for a while with your crochet work? I've pulled together some fun Valentines crochet patterns for you to enjoy and hopefully friends and family will too.
First up is the Heartfelt Scarf crochet pattern
This is a quick project to keep your loved ones warm. You can find this pattern: HERE on my website On Ravelry On Etsy

Pattern DetailsThe Popcorn crochet stitch is a fun collection of stitches which create a puffy texture in projects. Some Popcorn stitches use hdc while others use dc. This video tutorial is for the stitch placement of the popcorn stitch as it is worked in the Cabled Blooms Blanket crochet pattern. It uses post stitches before and after the Popcorn which are not actually part of the Popcorn. Be sure to follow the specific pattern as it may vary from this tutorial. ***This post contains Affiliate links for which I may receive a small commission for purchases at no extra cost to you*** Sometimes it's fun to have a crochet cable texture that is quick and easy to work. The Stand Out Cable crochet stitch is just that! This stitch creates a rope-like look on crochet projects without the fuss of crossing a bunch of stitches. The Stand Out Cable stitch is used in the Stand Out Cable Chevron Afghan crochet pattern and also the Cabled Blooms Blanket crochet pattern. Video tutorials below show the basic stitch placement for this stitch. When using the stitch, be sure to read the individual crochet patterns carefully for possible adjustments. ***This post contains Affiliate links in which I may receive a small commission for purchases at no extra cost to you*** Right Angled Stand Out Cable video tutorialLeft Angled Stand Out Cable video tutorialIf you've ever looked at the gaps in crochet projects that are created by turning chains and wished you could fix them, this stitch is for you! standing stitches are a great way to start rows. They are thicker and sturdier than your basic turning chains and honestly, they are quite easy to work. Watch this video now to learn how to work the simple standing half double crochet stitch to take your project edges to the next level!
Welcome to the MCAL for the Cabled Blooms Blanket!
A few words of encouragement before we start. The skill level for this crochet pattern is considered intermediate because of the use of post stitches and a few other stitches that a beginner may not be familiar with. I will be adding photo & video tutorials to help with those stitches so don't be afraid to try it out! It never hurts to try. While I used Yarnspirations Caron Simply Soft Yarn for my pattern swatch, I will be using Premier Yarn's Everyday yarn for my full blanket. It's all about the color for me and it's ok to use something different. This pattern will work well using a variety of yarns. If you enjoy working with thread, consider working 1 section wide of the instructions to create a stunning table runner. If you enjoy working with baby yarn, go for it! If Red Heart Super Saver is your go to, go right ahead! The size of your finished project will vary from mine but that's ok. I'll be giving you instructions to work as close to your desired size as you can. ***This post contains Affiliate links through which I may receive a small commission for purchases at no extra cost to you***

A few years ago I learned how to work foundation chains and it changed my life (and designing) forever. Foundation chains are so much easier to work, give a wonderful stretch and consistency to the beginning of projects and look nice and tidy.
I created some photo tutorials which are available to view on my old blog: hdc foundation chain photo tutorial can be found HERE dc foundation chain photo tutorial can be found HERE
Most of my designs use the hdc foundation chain though I will use the sc and dc foundation chains now and then. Knowing that many of you learn well from videos, I've created a video tutorial to show how I work the foundation chains. I hope this will help those who have questions or just haven't brought themselves to learn the technique yet.
Once you learn and get used to working them, you'll not want to use a basic starting chain again! Continue Below for video Grab your hooks and yarn, get comfy on your couch and join me for a beautiful Mystery CAL!
It's been a while since we've worked on a CAL together and even longer since we've worked a mystery one. It has also been a while since I released a new design for free on my blog so how about we combine all of that and get to work?
A few days ago, I asked on my Facebook page what type of afghan crochet pattern you would like to see for free. You left some good ideas and I'm going to try my best to design with each one. The first crochet stitch mentioned was cables. Ohhh, I love a good crochet cable design! Another friend mentioned they wanted something that would work up quickly so I chose a simple faux style cable stitch for this pattern that reminds me of a rope. If you want a peak at what that stitch will look like, check out the Stand Out Cable Chevron Afghan.
Another thing that was important to me is the ability to customize! I want you to be able to make any size you desire so that you'll be able to use this pattern over and over for many different occasions, family and friends. ***This post contains Affiliate Links through which I may receive a small commission for purchases at no extra cost to you*** With all of that in mind, I grabbed my hook, yarn and stitch chart program and set to work! I know that you're going to love this one as much as I do!!! Mystery CAL details
Sometimes it's fun to mix things up a little though so with the Square Pillow pattern, I added some color to the arrows. Don't you just love that about crochet? Simple little adjustments of color can bring on a whole new look and feel.
Have I mentioned how much I love Bolster Pillows lately?***This post contains Affiliate links for which I may receive a small commission for purchases at no extra charge to you*** I don't know why, but I used to not like bolster pillows at all. They just seemed awkward and not big enough. When I started designing my home decor crochet pattern collections a few years ago, I wanted more than just a basic square or rectangle pillow to coordinate with my crocheted afghans so I purchased a few bolster pillow forms on Amazon. I soon realized I was wrong about bolster pillows! I absolutely love them now and have to keep a tight watch on my own pillow because my girls like to use them too. lol I like to take them in the car for rides and they're a good shape for the girls to use if they're tired during a long ride. I like that they give more support for my neck when reading in bed and I LOVE the look of them when placed on a couch or bed with the coordinating pillows and throw! A wonderful way to add color and texture to any room in your home is by adding pillows! Even better.... buy (or make) 1 pillow form in a few different sizes and then crochet a collection of pillow covers to switch out your decor through the year. This makes it so easy to change things up without a lot of fuss. (I can't complain about it being easier to wash just the covers either!) Here's a fun collection of Bolster Pillow Cover Crochet Patterns to check out! |
