Braided Cable Tutorial for the
Cabled Zig Zag Crochet Pattern Collection

Picture
Don't you just love the look of cables and braids or the amazing texture that post stitches can give to crochet projects?  I absolutely love texture!  I love the look of it, I love designing it and I love running my hand across the projects.  What I don't like is the gaps that you get when working post stitches.  Sometimes it's ok and sometimes we want those gaps but sometimes it's nice to have a smooth solid piece.

In 2017, I designed the Braided Cable Block Collection for my nephew which included a Throw, Bolster pillow, Square pillow and Rectangle pillow.  It was beautiful and he and his new wife absolutely loved it.  The only thing that I didn't like about it was the ridges on the wrong side of the work that you get when working post stitches.  I wanted a solution but I knew that it wouldn't be easy to explain in terms that everyone can understand.
In the new Cabled Zig Zag Crochet Pattern Collection, I've included the written instructions for how to work the new dc/FPtrTOG to create a smooth and solid section when working post stitches.  There are also many, many stitch placement photos to help along the way.  I know that many of you learn well from photos but many of you learn well from video tutorials so to help you even more (just in case), I've created a video tutorial that can easily be viewed below.

I hope that you will try something new if you haven't worked cables before.  The Braided Cable is probably the simplest cable to work and once you get the hang of them, they're addicting!

Hey there!  Thank you for joining my blog here at Crafting Friends Designs. Grab your hook, some yarn and get comfy as we crochet some fun, unique and beautiful projects together.
I'm Kate and crochet is my passion.  I've been crocheting for 30+ years and as you can see from the selection of designs on my site, blankets are my obsession.  I absolutely love creating something that will wrap my love around friends and family when they're in need of comfort.
Having 4 beautiful girls of my own has also inspired many infant, toddler and child size dresses.  They are my biggest cheerleaders and have enjoyed wearing the things I've made them.
