Patriotic Archway Throw

I love the look and feel of rustic Patriotic colors!  They take my mind back to the days when people journeyed to this country in hopes of living a better life.
The warmth of these colors bring such a comforting and welcome feeling to my home.  I just want to wrap up in them and read a good book, watch a great movie or pick up more yarn and just snuggle while working on another crochet pattern.

Recently, I created a poll on Crafting Friends Designs Facebook page and in my Facebook group to see what YOU wanted to work as a CAL.  The majority vote was for the Patriotic Throw and I can wait to get started with you!  Click the links above to follow me on Facebook and join my crochet group to stay in the loop.

Since throws, afghans, blankets (whichever you prefer calling them) typically take a while to crochet, I'm breaking this crochet - a - long down to make it  easy to follow.

Patriotic Archway Throw Crochet A Long Details

Here are the details of the CAL
DATES: September 17th - 27th
Each day, 1 set/row of written instructions and the same set/row of stitch chart instructions will be added to the pdf.  The updated pdf will be uploaded daily by 10am MST to Ravelry for easy access

I will be available in my Facebook Group  here:
www.facebook.com/groups/531832953690041
to help answer any questions you might have.  Join NOW to follow along and see everyone's work!

This is a great way to learn how to read charts while working row by row!  It is a simple pattern and the chart rows are in color to help see where each stitch is placed more easily.

Skill Level: Easy

      876 yards Acadia (Tan)
      565 yards Olympic (Blue)
      565 yards Redwood (Red)

Finished Size:
72" x 48" or customize to your desired size

Hook:
H

Gauge:
 14 dc & 8 rows = 4”

Terminology:
US crochet terms

Stitches/Abbreviations:

st(s) - stitch(es),    sl st - slip stitch,  ch - chain, yo - yarn over,  sc - single crochet, hdc - half double crochet,
dc - double crochet, tr - treble crochet

Special Stitches:

Foundation dc: If you’re unfamiliar with how to work foundation chains, this photo tutorial may help
http://craftingfriendsdesigns.blogspot.com/2015/02/double-crochet-foundation-chain-photo.html
If you prefer a basic beginning chain, chain the required amount + 3 extra, turn, dc in 3rd chain from hook and each
chain across

Reverse sc: working from left to right, insert hook from front to back in next stitch to the right, yo, pull loop through
stitch, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook

Notes:
  1. This pattern uses standing stitches instead of turning chains.  If you prefer to use a turning chain, chain 1 and turn for all rows starting with a sc, chain 2 and turn for all rows starting with hdc, chain 3 and turn for all rows starting with a dc (ch-2 and ch-3 would count as stitches)
  2. When changing colors, do so in the last step of the last stitch of the row before the color change
  3. Color sections are worked in counts of 4 rows to allow you to carry your yarn up the edge of the throw instead of fastening off each color
  4. The Border section adds 4” to each side of the throw.  Take this into consideration when customizing the foundation to your desired size

    Kate Wagstaff

Hey there!  Thank you for joining my blog here at Crafting Friends Designs. Grab your hook, some yarn and get comfy as we crochet some fun, unique and beautiful projects together.
I'm Kate and crochet is my passion.  I've been crocheting for 30+ years and as you can see from the selection of designs on my site, blankets are my obsession.  I absolutely love creating something that will wrap my love around friends and family when they're in need of comfort.
Having 4 beautiful girls of my own has also inspired many infant, toddler and child size dresses.  They are my biggest cheerleaders and have enjoyed wearing the things I've made them.

If you love what you see, please leave a comment and let me know!
