I can't believe it's been 4 years!

Classic Cable Chevron Afghan

4 years ago, my youngest sister asked me to make an afghan that she could give her mother in law for Christmas.  I had designed the Ribbon Candy Afghan for her son a year or so before and she wanted me to make another one.

Here's the thing... I rarely make the same thing more than once.  I have so many ideas in my head for new designs that I'm afraid if I started making something a 2nd time, I'd drag my feet wishing I could be creating something new.  I think she actually laughed at me when I told her I'd design her a new afghan but wouldn't make the one she wanted.

Little did I know... this new afghan I'd be designing would become one of my best selling crochet patterns.  Hundreds and hundreds of crocheters have already enjoyed this pattern and I hope you'll enjoy it too!   Grab your copy of the Classic Cable Chevron Afghan pattern below.
Because of the time of year and the holiday season it was going to be gifted in, I wanted something rich and warm and classic.   I absolutely love the way cables look and once you get the hang of them, they're really fun to crochet.  At the time, I was also on a chevron kick.  I was fascinated with chevrons! I was really pushing my limits to design something different with a chevron stitch that would be unique and not something that is already out there.  I also didn't want the blanket to be stiff!  Who enjoys trying to snuggle up in a stiff crochet blanket?  Not me!

Red Heart® Soft® Off White

from: Annie's
With color and style in mind, I set to work.  I decided to use Red Heart's Soft yarn which is a 4ww but thinner and softer than their Super Saver yarn.  For Christmas, I wanted to use the rich color of red and cream to give it a warm and comfy feel.  Cables?  Well, they were a must for the classic style I was looking for!
The Classic Cable Chevron Afghan uses a fun little stitch in the valley of the chevron and the cables are worked up the peaks.  This crochet pattern is beautiful when worked in a solid color and fun to show the chevron more when worked in several colors.

Needless to say, my sister loved the end result and so did her mother in law!  Best feeling ever to  know that it'll be loved and used for years to come!

I'm Kate and crochet is my passion.  I've been crocheting for 30+ years and as you can see from the selection of designs on my site, blankets are my obsession.  I absolutely love creating something that will wrap my love around friends and family when they're in need of comfort.
Having 4 beautiful girls of my own has also inspired many infant, toddler and child size dresses.  They are my biggest cheerleaders and have enjoyed wearing the things I've made them.
