Round 1: Ch 5 (counts as a dc, ch-1), (dc, ch 1)9x in very 1st chain, sl st to 3rd chain of beginning chain to connect
(10 dc, 10 ch-1)

Note: If Round 1 does not lay flat after joining, you'll want to adjust your hook size and rework this round.

Round 2: (Sc, ch 4, dc) around 1st ch-1 (counts as a V-Stitch), ch 1, (V-Stitch, ch 1) around each ch-1 of previous round, sl st to beginning chain to connect

**Please laugh at my bloopers as I'm getting used to my new phone setup for recording.  I promise, the videos will get better but the pattern is still great!!!

Round 3:
*Ch 5, sl st around next ch-1, ch 5, sl st around chain of next V-Stitch,* repeat from *to* around to final V-Stitch, ch 5, sl st around end ch-1, ch 5, sl st around same chain as beginning ch-5 to connect
(20 ch-5)

Round 4: Ch 2, sl st around beginning ch-5, ch 5, *sl st around next ch-5, Ch 5,* repeat from *to* around ending with a sl st to beginning ch-2 to connect
(20 ch-5)

Tip: When you finish Round 4, it's a great place to fasten off to make a bunch of coasters!
Picture
Round 5: Ch 1, (sc, ch 4, dc) around first ch-5 (counts as V-Stitch), ch 1, *V-Stitch around next ch-5, ch 1,* repeat from *to* around, sl st around beginning ch-4 to connect
(20 V-St)

Picture
Round 6: Ch 1, (sc, ch 4, dc) around chain of same V-Stitch as sl st (counts as V-Stitch), ch 1, *V-Stitch around ch-2 of next V-Stitch, ch 1,* repeat from *to* around, sl st around beginning ch-4 to connect
(20 V-St)

Tip: Fastening off after Round 5 or 6 will give you a good sized mat/doily to place under flower vases!
Tip: If your diameter starts pulling in on Round 7 as if you're making a hat, and won't lay flat when placed on the counter and stretched slightly to shape, swap instructions for rounds 7 & 8, and work the increase round first.
If your project lays flat after round 6 and you want more of a ruffled project, work the increase instructions of round 8 before working the Vstitch of round 7.  Swapping the increase section earlier will provide more ruffles as long as you continue to work increases earlier than suggested.

Fasten off & weave in ends

Tips:
1. You can continue working this pattern to make your project larger by working Round 6 instructions for as long as your project will lay flat, then you'll work rounds 3-5 to increase followed by working Round 6 again for as long as your project will lay flat. (If your project is pulling inward, you'll want to undo that round for the increase so your project will still lay flat)

2. For a Ruffled look, repeat Round 6 less so you can increase more often.

3. If you want a wavy border, end at any point with Round 3 instructions.  If you want a strait border, end with Round 6 instructions

Hey there!  Thank you for joining my blog here at Crafting Friends Designs. Grab your hook, some yarn and get comfy as we crochet some fun, unique and beautiful projects together.
I'm Kate and crochet is my passion.  I've been crocheting for 30+ years and as you can see from the selection of designs on my site, blankets are my obsession.  I absolutely love creating something that will wrap my love around friends and family when they're in need of comfort.
Having 4 beautiful girls of my own has also inspired many infant, toddler and child size dresses.  They are my biggest cheerleaders and have enjoyed wearing the things I've made them.

If you love what you see, please leave a comment and let me know!
