Free Mountain Lace Infinity Cowl crochet pattern

What kind of scarves or cowls do you prefer?  Regular thin scarf? Regular wide scarf? Long, thin cowl? Short, fat cowl?
Personally, I don't like feeling like I'm going to choke on anything semi tight on my neck so I don't wear scarves often but I do enjoy making them for others.  The few that I have made for myself tend to be long and thin. One thing I did learn when my girls were little though is that a wide cowl made a really fun wrap for young girls.  My girls would pull the cowl down over their shoulders and it was great for keeping their arms warm while wearing short sleeve dresses.  Kind of a fun use for cowls!

Something that I don't like about typical cowls is how they can be to wide and sit to close to my chin unless you use a drape-y yarn.  The infinity style cowl helps solve that issue since you twist the foundation once and it creates sort of a V dip in the body of the cowl.  To me, it just seems to help control the shape of the project a little better.

Trying to figure out the size you need to make is another struggle at times.
If you know who you're making the cowl for, it's a lot easier to make it the perfect size for them.  But what if you're just making one for fun or for a craft show?
<--- Here are some size suggestions that may be helpful for you.
Continue below for the written instructions and video tutorial for the Mountain Lace Infinity Cowl
The Mountain Lace Infinity Cowl is considered an Easy skill level and is a great project to use up all your scrap yarn!  I start with a different foundation to keep the look of the repeat stitches so it blends well.  Then we use our simple and basic crochet stitches to create the rest!  Easy Peasy!

Loop Stitch: This stitch is written out in each round it’s used. The X under the loop is also counted as the loop stitch for the purpose of the round stitch count total. Video tutorials of how to work the stitch can be found on my website https://www.craftingfriendsdesigns.com/bloggingfun/new-loop-the-loop-cowl-crochet-pattern-and-video-tutorials

Notes:

  1. The loops are tacked down by working stitches in 2 rounds together so they aren’t easily snagged. If you prefer to not tack them down, follow the instructions in bold as indicated
  2. Beginning (sc, ch 2) counts as a dc
  3. Photos showing stitch placement are on the last page of pattern and are referenced as P1, P2, P3 etc.
  4. When changing colors, do so in the last step of the last stitch of the row before the color change 5. To avoid weaving in so many ends, drop the unused color of yarn to the inside of the cowl or boot cuff to be picked up again when needed
