A Scrumptious new year round throwWhen Red Heart Yarns released their new Amore yarn, I HAD to try it. Just feeling the skein in the store made me clear the shelves (and I'm not joking!). Mind you, the shelves weren't very full of this yarn so I had to keep checking for more each time I went to town. It took some time to get the amount of yarn I wanted for a few different designs but the wait was SO worth it! If you haven't tried Red Heart Amore yet, don't wait any longer. It is so soft and flexible and comfy and feels like butter to work with. ***This post contains Affiliate links through which I may receive a small commission for purchases made at no extra cost to you*** The Wrapped in Ribbon Blanket is great for year round use! Using the Amore yarn, it drapes nicely and is comfy cozy for cool summer evenings. Using other 4ww yarns (as seen below) make this wonderfully warm for winter too. Welcome to the MCAL for the Cabled Blooms Blanket!
A few words of encouragement before we start. The skill level for this crochet pattern is considered intermediate because of the use of post stitches and a few other stitches that a beginner may not be familiar with. I will be adding photo & video tutorials to help with those stitches so don't be afraid to try it out! It never hurts to try. While I used Yarnspirations Caron Simply Soft Yarn for my pattern swatch, I will be using Premier Yarn's Everyday yarn for my full blanket. It's all about the color for me and it's ok to use something different. This pattern will work well using a variety of yarns. If you enjoy working with thread, consider working 1 section wide of the instructions to create a stunning table runner. If you enjoy working with baby yarn, go for it! If Red Heart Super Saver is your go to, go right ahead! The size of your finished project will vary from mine but that's ok. I'll be giving you instructions to work as close to your desired size as you can. ***This post contains Affiliate links through which I may receive a small commission for purchases at no extra cost to you***
Pattern DetailsA personal Christmas giftThis past year, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on life, trying to figure out where I fit in and what my purpose is. I think we all go through that process from time to time and it's a good time to look at what we've been blessed with, appreciate what we have and think about how we can be better.
Last Christmas, I watched as my sister and her family all struggled with the thought of losing her brother in law. He was in his 30's and had been diagnosed with cancer. They weren't sure if he would make it through Christmas and it was such a hard and sad time for them. My heart hurt for all of them! He was married and had a teenage daughter and some younger kids. I can't imagine the heartache and emotions they were dealing with. He was determined not to let it get him down and pushed through for his family until after the first of the year. Thankful for SnugglesI love snuggles! I love being able to snuggle little babies to let them know they're safe and loved. I love being able to snuggle a sick child, not that I love them being sick but I love being able to comfort them and let them know that I care about them and hope they get better. For many years, I was a single mom and it could be a very lonely feeling at times. When the time was right, I met the man I knew I was supposed to be with and we got married. It's nice now to be able to just snuggle on the couch and watch a movie together and know that he loves me and our kids. I've also been able to watch my nieces and nephews over the years and loved snuggling with them to get them to take a nap or settle down to watch a movie. I have made each of them a blanket so they could snuggle in that whenever they needed comforted. Note to self: I think I still need to make my last nephew a blanket. I see another new blanket afghan in the works! As I've mentioned many times, handmade afghans are my way of offering comfort and love to my family and friends in their times of need. For today's $1 pattern, I chose the Braided Cable Chevron Afghan. I love the simplicity of the cable climbing the peeks of the chevron. One of the things that I love about living in Northern Utah is the fact that we have 4 very distinct seasons. I know we've talked about it before and many of you are in warmer climates where it stays pretty consistent. I honestly don't have a favorite season. I love each of them for different reasons and getting to live here helps me appreciate them even more. Spring time means beautiful flowers popping up through the snow and the thought of planting fresh peas in my garden as early as March. Everything is just waking up and fresh and it's just pretty. Summer means that we get to enjoy sitting on the porch swing and the amazing colors of flowers, planting a garden and watching it grow, camping in the mountains and swimming in outdoor pools. Cookouts with family are a given and the good ole hometown events and parades are in full swing. Fall is amazing when the leaves start to change color, the wheat fields are golden, corn on the cob is on a must have and county fairs are in full swing. The wildlife starts coming down to the hill sides more and we can watch them in their full beauty. How could you not love it? Winter brings a new beauty to behold when the first snow of the season falls and all the fields are covered in white. What a sight to see! It brings with it the magic of the season and the thoughts of sitting by a nice warm fire surrounded by those you love. I'm not of fan of the cold but I love seeing my girls sledding down our little hill or building a snowman. Thankful for ColorThe colors of the rainbow, the colors of flowers, the colors of trees through summer and fall. Oh how they all just amaze me. They all have their place and they all bring different feelings to mind. Do you have a favorite? My favorite color is purple. Not just any shade of purple though. I love the deep rich comforting color that just makes me think "LOVE". It's also my birthstone so that may be why I'm attached to it. It is also the reason I chose the "A Round the Flower Garden Afghan" to be my pattern for today. When it comes to color in my crochet designs, I typically design with someone specific in mind and try to use colors that I know they'll enjoy. THAT is what I love about crochet! I can wip up a pattern in my favorite color and YOU can wip up the same pattern in your favorite color and it just works perfectly. Thank heavens we don't all have to use only blue!!! I am SO excited I can finally show you what I've been working on over the summer! It's been a while since I've released any major crochet patterns and this is why. If you've followed me for at least the past year, you know that I've enjoyed creating crochet pattern collections for the home. Since I learned to crochet 30+ years ago, making afghans has been my passion. I just love everything about them! I love that you can give them to family and friends and they can wrap up in warmth knowing you put your heart and soul into making them something special.
The past 2 years, I wanted more than just the afghans though. I love seeing throws nicely set over couches or placed across beds. But then what? How do you coordinate it with everything else? What goes better with a beautiful crocheted throw than pillows?
What do you think? The Queen of Hearts Afghan is nice, but doesn't it just look complete now with the pillows?
I'm in LOVE! Purchase the collection HERE What you get in the Queen of Hearts
